The Baby Blues

Most moms experience Baby Blues beginning 2-3 days after childbirth and lasting up to 2 weeks. In this period, it is common to experience crying spells, mood swings, anxiety, and difficulty sleeping. Symptoms beyond that are Postpartum Depression, and it's more common than you think. It's important to seek help.

Maternal Mental Health Should Not be Ignored

Your mental health as a caretaker makes a tremendous impact on your baby. Your baby co-regulates with you. So if you are anxious all the time, your baby will learn to be anxious all the time. If you are depressed all the time, your baby will learn to be sad all the time. Your regulation is critical to your baby's regulation. After one of the biggest mountains to climb in parenting is assisting our children with their emotions.

You make the biggest impact on that baby and the postpartum period is extremely hard. They say it takes a village. They are not wrong. Getting help is important.

For those of that have experienced trauma, so often our past trauma floods into our systems in the postpartum period. Many of your symptoms could be the result of old experiences.

You don't have to stay this way. You can heal. You can be present with your baby. You can feel different.
